The Falling Star - Book Tour + Q&A

mayo 23, 2021 1 Comentarios

Today I’m excited to participate in the Bookstagram & Creative Tour for The Falling Star by Imani Josey hosted by MTMC Tours! The Falling Star is the second book in The Blazing Star series & it was released on December 8th, 2020 from Wise Ink.

Sinopsis

Seventeen-year-old Alexandria White only wants to go home, a wish that would be easier to pull off if home weren’t thousands of years in the future and halfway across the world.

Since her twin sister, Portia, touched an artifact during their history class, she’s been stuck in ancient Egypt surrounded by the unknown: knife-wielding priestesses, soul-consuming Scorpions, and a destiny so terrifying she fled Egypt’s capital city.

Alex has been hiding in plain sight and putting her academic skills to use as a royal tutor in the Nile Delta, an area on the brink of war. When tensions rise between clashing monarchies, everything Alex left behind—the magic that is her birthright, the danger of the Scorpions—is arriving at her door, as well as a major secret.

She’ll have to decide if she will flee again or take a stand and face her future in the past.

Author: Imani Josey  |Series: The Blazing Star #2   | Publishing Date: December 8th, 2020  | Publisher: Wise Ink  | Genres: YA Historical Fantasy

My Opinion

I was really looking forward to reading this sequel. As you know, I loved the first book and, even when Alex was my least favorite character due to all her egoism and attitude, in this book we get to know her a little bit more and that was great.

I have to admit I am still #TeamPortia but the way her intelligence and her gift are described got me intrigued from the start. It is really interesting this character switch on the narrative as well as the timeline keeps moving.

This time we also have a couple of questions answered by the author!

Q&A with the Author Imani Josey

When did you start getting interested in Egyptian history?
I’ve always had an interest! Personally, my mom was into ancient Egypt, and the stars, and that interest passed on to me as well. She gave me a picture of Nefertari when I was young that I keep in my office. My grandfather is also a history, so I come by a love of the ancient world quite honestly.

If you could have a coffee with an Egyptian deity, who would that be?
I would love to have Merneith, who was a queen and regent from the first dynasty. I’m working on a piece about her as well (though I have to get more words down).

Dragonfly Girl - Tour and Review

abril 27, 2021 4 Comentarios

Today I'm participating on the Book Promo Tour for Dragonfly Girl by Marti Leimbach MTMC Tours! In this spellbinding thriller and YA debut from bestselling author Marti Leimbach, Kira Adams has discovered a cure for death—and it may just cost her life. Dragonfly Girl was published on February 23rd, 2021 from Katherine Tegen Books/HarperCollins.

Sinopsis

In this spellbinding thriller and YA debut from bestselling author Marti Leimbach, Kira Adams has discovered a cure for death—and it may just cost her life.

Things aren’t going well for Kira. At home, she cares for her mother and fends off debt collectors. At school, she’s awkward and shy. Plus, she may flunk out if she doesn’t stop obsessing about science, her passion and the one thing she’s good at . . . very good at.

When she wins a prestigious science contest she draws the attention of the celebrated professor Dr. Gregory Munn (as well as his handsome assistant), leading to a part-time job in a top-secret laboratory.

The job is mostly cleaning floors and equipment, but one night, while running her own experiment, she revives a lab rat that has died in her care. One minute it is dead, the next it is not.

Suddenly she’s the remarkable wunderkind, the girl who can bring back the dead. Everything is going her way. But it turns out that science can be a dangerous business, and Kira is swept up into a world of international rivalry with dark forces that threaten her life.

Author: Marti Leimbach  | Publishing Date: February 23, 2021  | Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books / HarperCollins.  | Genres: Young Adult, Mystery, Thriller

My Opinion

This is an amazing book, I was really interested about reading a science thriller (we NEED more books like this) but I wasn´t expecting to find such an addictive story.I literally couldn't stop reading from the second part of the book!

We start with the common life of Kira Adams, who is an understimated genius, bullied (sometimes really cruelly) by her school partners and also having a really hard situation at home, which leads her to take not very good decisions, such as participate on a PhD contest without having even graduated from high school.

And this is what I loved about this book, that it states the fact that we can be amazing or successful at something without needing a paper to prove it.
But people aren't precise. Numbers are precise. But people are like time, they bend. Wouldn't you say that what matters in science is the quality of research? And not the educational background of the researcher?
Another thing to remark is that this is based on true studies, which are listed by the author at the end and after such an intense journey on this book, I actually ended up looking for them in order to know more (we all know I'm a geek).

I totally recomended, just please don't try to resurrect your pets!

My rating:

About the author

Marti Leimbach is known for her bestsellers, Dying Young, made into a film starring Julia Roberts, and Daniel Isn’t Talking. She is interested in neurodiversity and has shared the stage with young inventors at the Human Genome Project (Toronto), the National Autistic Society, and the University of Oxford. Her interest in science influenced her YA thriller, Dragonfly Girl. She teaches on the Masters Programme in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford. Dragonfly Girl is her eighth novel, but her first for young adults

The Blazing Star - Book Tour

abril 05, 2021 2 Comentarios

Today I’m excited to participate in the Bookstagram & Creative Tour for The Blazing Star by Imani Josey hosted by MTMC Tours! When transported to ancient Egypt, Portia and her genius sister must team up to save Thebes and find their way home. The Blazing Star is the first book in a YA Historical Fantasy / Time Travel series published by Wise Ink!

Sinopsis

Sixteen-year-old Portia White is used to being overlooked—after all, her twin sister Alex is a literal genius.

But when Portia holds an Egyptian scarab beetle during history class, she takes center stage in a way she never expected: she faints. Upon waking, she is stronger, faster, and braver than before. And when she accidentally touches the scarab again?

She wakes up in ancient Egypt—her sister and an unwitting freshman in tow.Great.

Mysterious and beautiful, Egypt is more than they could have ever imagined from their days in the classroom. History comes alive as the three teens realize that getting back to the present will be the most difficult thing they’ve ever done. Stalked by vicious monsters called Scorpions, every step in the right direction means a step closer to danger.

As Portia and the girls discover that they’re linked to the past by more than just chance, they have to decide what it truly means to be yourself, to love your sister, and to find your way home.

Author: Imani Josey  |Series: The Blazing Star #1   | Publishing Date: December 6th, 2016  | Publisher: Wise Ink  | Genres: YA Historical Fantasy

My Opinion

Right now I am at the middle of the book, and as an Egyptian culture fan, I am really loving it. The quality of the descriptions, from buildings to clothes and passing through the daily issues are amazing and really appreciated. From the moment Portia arrives in the past, we get into clothing and climate descriptions, it even helps you feel normal talking about other traditions thah may seem very different or even weird to us.

The characters are not perfect but they give their best in every challenge they face (totally felt the burning of the Nikes for being "strange" lol). I specially loved Portia's strenght and sharpness. Another thing I want to point out is how quickly you get into this story and the fact that it has a great amount of humor, which we don't see a lot this days.

Totally recommend this book, specially if you are an Egypt fan like me. I can't wait to know what will happen with Portia and her friends!

As a three thousand-year-old threat reemerges, only one man has the power to awaken the world’s greatest protectors and restore order to the realm. He just doesn’t know it yet.

When Jerrol Haven, a captain in the King’s Rangers, discovers treason at the highest level, he knows immediately that the knowledge puts his life at risk. And indeed, though he expected the ailing King to shield him, the ambitious Crown Prince sentences Jerrol to death. What hold does the Prince have over his weakened father, and who or what is he protecting?

As Jerrol flees for his life, he is rescued by the enigmatic Lady Leyandrii, a goddess who, according to legend, once saved the land of Remargaren from malevolent wild magic users known as the Ascendants by raising a veil to nullify their power and exiling them. Now, with signs that her veil is weakening and the Ascendants are creeping back into power, she has returned and is in dire need of Jerrol’s help. For though he doesn’t know it, Jerrol possesses a rare gift: By chance, he touches a revered Sentinal tree and awakens Birlerion, one of the Lady’s personal guard who have been sleeping in the strange, tall trees since they were last called to battle.

Aided by Birlerion and an old friend, Jennery, Jerrol begins his journey to help Lady Leyandrii save Remargaren once more. But time is running out: As it was with the King, the old guard Lords are everywhere being usurped, attacked, and assassinated, while their heirs behave strangely and refuse to honour the Lady as Remargarens have done for millennia. Jerrol must unravel the mystery of the Ascendants’ return, stop the sinister force that is dividing good families through bloodshed and betrayal, and rescue the King—and his troubles are only just beginning.

Sentinals Awaken is the first book in the saga of Remargaren, a vibrant, ancient world of high fantasy suffused with magic and adventure.

My opinion so far

From the begining, this book takes you to a realm of magic, ghosts and legends. I loved the way it quickly engaged me with the story and the characters but also the rich history of the land of Remargaren. It totally has the vibes of an epic adventure with treasons and plot twists.

I am eager to continue my reading and let you know about it at the end.

📕 AND NOW THE COVER...  ðŸ“—

Title: Curse Painter
Author: Jordan Rivet
Series: Art Mages of Lure

Publishing Date: October 9th, 2020
Genres: YA Fantasy

Preorder: Amazon Add on Goodreads!

Art is magic. Art is a curse.

Briar can curse with the flick of a paintbrush. Her paintings maim, bewitch, and—most effectively of all—destroy. But Briar doesn't want to hurt people anymore. She has fled her family's deadly curse business to start a new life peddling nonlethal jinxes and petty revenge.

Briar’s destructive powers catch the eye of a charismatic young outlaw called Archer, who hires her to help him save a kidnapped friend from a ruthless baron. Briar thinks this is her chance to make amends for her crimes, but the family business won’t let her go so easily.

When her violent past jeopardizes Archer’s rescue mission, Briar must confront the dark arts she left behind—and decide what she’s willing to destroy in order to be good.

🎨 A note from author Jordan Rivet:

This cover was designed by Dane at Ebook Launch. I had a lot of fun writing the art-based magic system in this book, and I love the way the designer handled the paint smudges. The bright colors standing out against the darker background perfectly captures the way the main character struggles against the darkness and destruction of her curse painting ability in her bid to be good.

When the angels awaken... The Genesis of the seven Bookstagram + Blog tour!

agosto 11, 2020 0 Comentarios

The Genesis of Seven by Sara M. Schaller
The Empyrean Trilogy #1

Publisher: Designs by Seraphim
Publishing Date: July 7th, 2020
Genres: YA Fantasy

Synopsis

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Conway has always wanted to help people, but helping seven archangels to achieve their divine duty was never quite what he had in mind… When Jordan is entrusted by the head nun of his orphanage to deliver a mysterious backpack to a New York City address, he comes unexpectedly face-to-face with Archangel Gabriel. Their acquaintance fast uncovers a labyrinth of secrets that connect Jordan’s once-normal life to an ancient heavenly prophecy. Now, he must help Gabriel to reunite the archangels before evil forces grow too strong.

Soon, Jordan and Gabriel find themselves on a divine quest across the globe, while deep in the pits of Hell, Satan plots his return to earth. To gain control, however, Satan needs the powerful prophetic objects locked safe inside Jordan’s backpack—and the devil will stop at nothing to get what he wants. With that notion threatening his only family and the safety of his newfound friends, Jordan must do whatever it takes to protect the ones he loves and help the archangels succeed. If that means sacrificing all he thought he knew to go to war with the devil himself? Bring it on.

My Opinion

Oh my god, where to start? I haven't really read many angel type books, but now I want to lay my hands on every one I can! This story is really good, the most remarkable thing is that is so fast paced I totally felt like I was watching a tv show instead of reading a book, every time I picked up the book was like watching a new episode, and it was really hard to put it down because I NEEDED TO KNOW haha.

Second thing I loved about this is the edition, I love the covers that get more sense as you go reading the book and this cover is gorgeus. Also the way every character's feelings are described is so cool I could almost feel that too. I loved the fact that it goes from a pretty common boy to an angelic epic story very quickly and you find yourself walking on heaven and hell at different points in time.

This is a book I highly recommend to give a chance to, and for those of you using the translator, I can't wait for it to be translated so even more of you can read it too.
